Miscellaneous Coaches' Questions and Answers
Q: How many practices should I have?
A: T-Ball & Coach Pitch teams should meet once or twice before the first
game. All other levels should practice at least three times before the first
game. Teams are selected early so indoor practices in the Kenwood
gym are acceptable. During the season teams from machine pitch on
up should practice once a week during the spring session. During the
summer it is up to the team to decide how much to practice. The
extended season teams should practice at least once per week for the
entire season.
Q: How do I sign up or tournaments?
A; Each team can participate in two tournaments paid for by WESAC. The
WESAC Baseball President or Commissioner can help find appropriate
tournaments for your team. Sign ups are made directly with the
tournament directors.
Q: How do I reserve a practice field?
A: Call the Kenwood Rec. center to reserve fields in Kenwood park or Bryn
Mawr Meadows. At Kenwood, #2, #3, are good for coach pitch and
machine pitch. These fields can also be used for Pee Wee practices.
At Bryn Mawr, fields 3, 4, 5, & 12 can be used for Pee Wee & Cub. Fields
1 & 13 are for baseball. When using fields at Bryn Mawr it is a very good
idea to get a reservation slip from the Kenwood Rec center in case
other people are using the field when you arrive. These fields are
reserved for youth sports. Call before Friday to reserve fields for the
following week. Beginning on Friday, unreserved fields will become
available to the general public.
Q: If it's raining or cold, should I cancel practice?
A: A shortened practice is better than none. Check to see if the Kenwood
Gym is available for throwing. Organize a trip to one of the indoor
batting cages. Remember to have fun, and if the weather prevents
that, cancel the practice. Just like games, practices are immediately
canceled if thunder is heard or lightening is seen.
Q: How do I reserve the batting cage?
A: Same as reserving a field. It's a good idea to try to get field 4 (or 5 12 or
3) for practices at the same time.
GAMES
Q: If it's raining or cold, will the games be played?
A: Generally yes, unless there is lightening or thunder or if the field is not
playable. Call the park where the game is being played at 5:00 for an
update. If you find out that a game has been canceled, notify your teams
members (preferably by using a team phone tree).
Q: What if my players are late?
A: You must have at least eight players to begin a game. Games begin at
6:15. If eight players are not present by 6:25, the game is forfeited. Allow
sufficient driving time during rush hours. For Machine Pitch and younger
play with however many show up.
