Player Draft

The player draft for T-Ball, Coach Pitch and Machine Pitch is the time when teams are made for the season. There are many competing demands for dividing up the players into teams. It is important to balance team size, gender balance, talent (if known), and anticipated parental involvement. Player preferences for playing with friends or for certain coaches are also considered at these levels.

Any participation at the draft qualifies for volunteer credit. There is a draft recorder and a scribe in each room as well as representatives from most of the teams. The scribe keeps track on a black board the assignments of the players to teams. The draft recorder makes sure that each player has been assigned to a team, and that the team assignments are delivered to the commissioner. The T-Ball and Coach Pitch drafts can take abaout 2 to 3 hours and the machine pitch draft is usually finished in 90 minutes.
