There are a number of key words in that statement the deserve additional attention
Help. The player must be motivated in order to improve - the Club can't do it for her. Players are expected to be at and on time for all practices and games. The families are expected to provide some volunteer assistance to make the club function smoothly. One component of the team selection process is identifying players who have a passion for the game and who really want to improve their skills.
Minneapolis Residents. The Club gives strong preference to Minneapolis residents in making team selections. There are circumstances where a non-resident can be accepted on a team, but this would be to provide the Minneapolis residents on the team with a better experience. For example if a non-city resident met the minimum standards for a particular position, a non-city resident could be placed on the team so that the overall team experience is enhanced. There are other situations that will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
Become Better Volleyball Players. There will be two team practices per week. In addition there will be position specific practices. The Club will host a summer volleyball camp/clinic and Club members will be offered a discounted rate. The Club also hopes to provide informal summer playing options for its members.
Competitive. Teams will play a full schedule from January through April with participation in a power league and additional tournaments. The tryout process will help in placing similarly talented individuals on the same team so that each member of the team can progress with the help of their peers.
Respectful. Players and coaches will be held to very high standards of respect towards teammates, opponents and game officials. Players must also respect themselves.
Affordable Prices. The coaches for the club all have a passion for seeing volleyball succeed in the city and are all working for well below market salaries. The club's administration is all done by volunteers. The practice space has been provided at a reduced rental rate. In addition, financial aid, funded through donations and grants, is available so that the club can effectively serve the entire city.
