Walker Church Council
January 19, 2006

Present: Sally Kuehn, Wally Kuehn, Steve Sandberg, Bonnie Beckel, Henry Schultz, Julia Phillips, Jim Feldman, Mary Burns, Pat Watkins, Jesse Watkins,Fred Glazer, Demaris Jackson, K.C. The minutes were approved as corrected.

Our cash flow has been resolved. We have $2000 in the General Fund. Ideally we should have a $10,000 cushion. The year end report hs been prepared.

Steve Sandberg, chair of Staff Parish Relations Committee completed the compiling of the questionnaire about our preferences in a minister. The survey results were emailed to members. The resulting church profile will be put on the Walker web site. We were encouraged to email District Superintendent Liz Lopez with names of ministers we would like to be considered as candidates.

Bonnie Beckel Brought Joe Hesla’s concern forward about reducing the hours of the support staff without reducing the hours of the minister. He sees it as a class issue. This was discussed. We also discussed whether we should have a part time or a full time minister. It was concluded that this issue needs further discussion at the next SPRC meeting and perhaps beyond.

Bonnie represented the Peace with Justice Committee. There will be a presentation made by the committee on Sunday January 22 to put forward three possible projects to work on. A project will be chosen by ballot or consensus. The next committee meeting will discuss the results.

Larry Nielsen suggested contacting Chuck Lofy to work on our peace with justice mission at some future workshop. He gave his pastor’s report, suggesting that we find a minister who is bilingual. He also suggested that we have members take lessons in conversational Spanish.
