Walker Church Council Minutes
November 30, 2006
Present: Jesse Watkins, Pat Watkins, Ricardo Morales, Steve Sandberg, Wayne Bailey, Sally Kuehn, Mary Burns, Julia Philips, Tom Manley, Dianne ODonnell, KC Bretzke, Walter Lockhart, Jennifer Gahnstrom
October minutes were approved.
Financial Report: Julia presented the November report noting that in the last couple months fundraisers have brought in significant income. Rummage sale $2100, Silent Auction $1600, wreaths $1100, NVC classes $1300 and the Cast your bread on the water brought in $300-600. Depending on income for December we may be able to pay up our 2006 apportionments in December.
Celebration start time & place of hospitality: Walter has been collecting the e-mails and surveys and talking with folks to get a total of 37 responses. Regarding start time: 26 want to change and start at 10am, 9 want to stay at 10:30 am, 2 had no preference. Regarding place of hospitality: results inconclusive. After discussion MSP to start the celebration at 10 am beginning January 7.
Peace with Justice: Joe Hesla presented the press release about Walker Churchs support of the unionizing efforts at Walker Health Care Center. After discussion MSP to approve the letter with some changes for clarification.
Trustees: Wayne reported a family has moved into the parsonage and all is well. There are mice in the balcony office and he is trapping them.
Assistant Admin report: Jennifer reported all is going well with the congregation renting our sanctuary on Sunday afternoons & they are timely in their $400 rent payments.
Outreach: Sally reported she is now working 12 hours per week and has two new Restorative Justice clients. The after school program with Campfire USA is going well.
Childrens Ed: Sally reported Mary Parker is doing a lot of volunteer work including on the Christmas pageant
Pastors report: Walter asked for volunteers to attend the Urban Congress on January 20. Ricardo, Dianne & Julia will attend. He talked of a clergy seminar he attended on inviting, forming & sending. He asked for prayers and thoughts for Wesley Church in their troubled financial situation.
MSP to skip the December Council meeting.
Jesse Watkins presented some thoughts on the Council since this will be his last meeting as chair. Jesse was thanked for all his work.
