Walker Church Council
March 22, 2007
Present: Walter Lockhart, Mary Parker, Nancy Larsen, Janet Court, Bonnie Beckel, K.C. Bretzke, Wayne Bailey, Ernie Gunderson, Sally Kuehn.
Bonnie led the opening meditation. The minutes were approved as corrected.
Walter reported for the Staff Parish Relations Committee. They have been tweaking job descriptions.
Janet had a question about the benefits of the employees who will be working on the tree planting project that she and James Livingston will be heading up.
Wayne reported for the Trustees that things are going remarkably well.
Walter reported for the Stewardship Committee that the figures look good.
Bonnie reported on the Peace with Justice Committees project with the Walker Healthcare Center. 15 plus calls were made to the voicemail of Lynn Starkovich, Walker head of the board of directors. Four people talked to a human being. Walter proposed a meeting with the bishop with three people from Walker Church and three people from the Walker Healthcare Center.
Janet reported that the tree planting in the park on Friday May 11 is all set. They are still working on the other parts of the tree planting project. SAlly added that once the trees are planted they will need watering. She is working on finding money to pay kids to water trees this summer. Walker Church will be responsible for supervising this activity.
Sally reported that Outreach is planning a hip hop jam and dance on Friday March 30. This will be an opportunity to notify kids of the Walker summer program.
Mary reported that the Sunday School will be distributing palm branches on Palm Sunday and putting on a pageant on Easter Sunday. The Sunday School will also give the sermon on the last Sunday of Sunday School, which will be May 20.
Walter reported that Sunday June 24 will be the Gay Pride march. That Sunday the celebration will be held in front of the library at the beginning of the parade route. A member of Spirit of Hope Church will be giving the sermon.
Walter reported on the plans to notify Minnesota Methodist ministers about the Peace with Justice Committees project on the union busting at the Walker Healthcare Center. Immediately prior to the Annual Conference in June a letter will be sent out to all Minnesota pastors. There will also be an article in Plumbline, which is passed out at the conference.
Walter reported that we have an intern who is interested in being Walkers intern for the next eight months. This person is available for an interview.
