Fellow PWJers,
Good news! The National Labor Relations Board recently remanded the Walker Methodist nursing home case to its Twin Cities regional office. AFSCME feels this is very a very hopeful and promising development, and is eagerly awaiting the regional office's decision, which should be handed down soon.
Meanwhile, our PWJ meeting at Walker last Saturday Oct. 28 was an exciting one, attended by Joe Hesla (chair), Bonnie Beckel, Marg Roszicki, Jim Feldman, Paul McHugh, and Walter. We were joined by Tony Ogundiran, AFSCME organizer and former Walker Methodist employee. Walter gave us the lay of the Methodist political land, and Tony told us more about the NLRB situation, etc.
Our current strategy is to work to influence members of the board of directors of Walker Methodist, Inc., and to work with our Bishop, Sally Dyck (sp?), who sits on the board. Committee members are optimistic and excited about the project!
Our next meeting date has not yet been set; here are the three dates we're looking at:
Please reply to this email ASAP to let us (Joe and Paul) know which dates work for you, and any preferences. Meanwhile, please pencil these dates onto your calendar. We'll try to get back to you soon with a firm date and venue.
Yours for paz con justicia,
Paul
